High performance tunable filters are needed in communication systems to facilitate efficient utilization of the available frequency spectrum. RF tunable filters are also in demand in front-end receivers for suppression of interfering signals and for replacement of large filter banks. The paper addresses recent developments in high-Q multi-function filters tuned by piezomotors, MEMS and semiconductor tuning elements. It also discusses techniques for adaptive and automated filter tuning
